Water Magic

You are hurrying to school on your bike, and suddenly your homework falls out of your backpack. Last night was raining so there are puddles everywhere. OH NO! You drop your bike, try to save your paper but you're too late, your paper has colors where your writing was, now you will have to think of an excuse.

In class we were putting papers into a little of water and observing what would happen. However on the papers we put a drawing or a mark in different colors and then take pictures.
Here are some design that came out of my designs:
https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqLFcY_XWPT2d4SRwjM9-KoE3QjiShl_C_ZYUUDPNxccqC0oZZ4_7SpkdDXmAOxhXTTwYdzxSqDOUeftlIx1aOOt_if0S8WYYXROeTncPkOJY3XG0CgMtDSXvj506SbQVDB8HX7T3BmwIi/s400/Photo_00005.jpg
We had to experiment with water and alcohol, the design I used was 2 dots of red pen and 1 of gray just a little above of the red dots. When I put it into the glass with water, after a few minutes the design I saw was:
Most polar: pink
Most non-polar or least polar : purple/gray (because it is not sticking to the paper so the water is dragging it up)
Chemical compounds: water : 8

WE KNOW THAT POLAR THINGS ATTRACT TO POLAR AND NON-POLAR TO NON-POLAR. So the higher on the paper, the more non-polar.

Then I did the exact same drawing in a second paper and placed it in alcohol, however I noticed it took much longer for the alcohol to travel up the paper.
Alcohol is less polar than water, so the colors went up slower. However the polar and non-polar colors where the same as for the water. I find it pretty interesting that water can drag colors with itself just like that.
And, I know that what we did was a chemical reaction, because when we placed some above a special lamp, they glowed (luminescence!).

Signs of CHemical Reactions

How do we know when a chemical reaction has happened? Well, there are a few things we can tell off, have you ever noticed those rotten leaves by the sidewalk? Yeah, they have overcome a chemical reaction themselves. Here is how you could tell if a chemical reaction happened:

              1. Colour Change:

 2. Bubbles Form--> Produces a gas

3.Temperature Change

4.Luminescent-glows after mixing chemicals

So lastly, if you ever see anything like this happen, then you know the object of water(whatever), has over gone a chemical reaction.

Elephants

By Stephen Ornes

Did you know that Elephants can anticipate natural disasters such as the 2004 tsunami but that is not their only characteristic. In fact scientists have discovered elephants sing. These low tunes that come from them are too low for the human ear to hear. Scientists think elephants make this sounds just like cats purr- by squeezing muscles near the voice box or larynx. The Elephants larynx is just like the human larynx, except it is 8 times bigger which leads to lower sounds.

"Such ultralow sound frequencies are known as “infrasonic” notes, or “infrasound.” The sounds can travel as far as 10 kilometers (6.6 miles) in the air. (For comparison, the song notes audible to humans travel only about 800 meters through air.) The superlow songs may also vibrate the ground, sending infrasonic signals even farther. The researchers mimicked the lowest part of the song by blowing air through the larynx of an elephant that had died. The experiment showed that just rushing air passing through the larynx makes the fundamental sound of the song. "

Since I was a really little child I've always liked elephants however I never knew  that they could sing, it is amazing how scientists figure some stuff out. :)

Formulas

Our class teacher, instead of just making us draw formulas, decided that we should actually create the elements with real materials, this is what we did:
The first formula was CH4-
3d Model:(The black ball=Carbon while yellow=Hydrogen
2nd formula:C3H8

3rd Formula:C2 H5 OH
For this one however there were 2 possible ways of placing out the elements,  a compound can have the same elements but different bonds making it different compounds. Compound 1:
This is Alcohol.
2nd Compound:
This is an atom that would explode.

Then with all the elements we had we had to create our own.
Our formula was:
So basically this is what we learned in class today, how to put paper formulas into real material.
